Let’s Talk About Mallard Ducks
Mallard ducks are everywhere, and fascinating to watch. Here are a few notable facts about them (and on the left is our new wrapping paper design):
They are the ancestors of almost all domestic ducks.
Males and females are easily distinguished by their appearance.
They are dabblers, not divers—feeding at the surface rather than plunging below (see video below).
They do not mate for life; instead, new pair bonds are formed each autumn.
In flight, they can reach speeds of up to 55 miles per hour.
So finely adapted is this bird that it now prospers across much of the world. Good for them!
